IT was a decision that was inevitable for the Bathurst Indoor Sports Stadium and on Sunday the call was officially made to cancel any remaining games for the winter season.

Managers and captains of basketball, netball and multisports sides were notified over the weekend that there would be no chance of resuming their respective competitions.
Given the easier transmissibility of COVID-19 in indoor environments, BISS manager Andrew James was never overly confident of seeing winter competitions at the venue resuming.
When cases came to the Central West we knew things weren’t going to start up any time soon.
“The inevitable struck and it was looking like it was going to be another six weeks until we have a chance of getting things going so I just thought I’d call that off and then try to start planning for the summer,” he said.
“But there’s not much I can do at the moment. I’m trying to plan for the season ahead but there’s no start dates. They’re saying no community even for places that have opened up, and then that won’t start until it’s 80 per cent double vaccinated. That’s not close until late October at the earliest so it’s a bit of a nightmare.

“I knew as soon as we locked down that it was probably going to be the end of winter competitions. We thought end of September might the best case scenario but when cases came to the Central West we knew things weren’t going to start up any time soon.

“Everyone knew it was coming anyway so it’s not like it was a surprise announcement. Now we just wait for more news from the government about when we can open up and start new competitions.”
In the announcement the stadium stated they will look to open registrations for winter competitions within the next fortnight.
